The 144, 000 saved and sealed during tribulation time

Revelation 7: 1-8

Introduction

In this session, Revelation chapter 7: 1-8, we understand that the end of the church age will be followed by great tribulation, which is the judgment or wrath against Christ-rejecting people. What are the two sides of God? The God of Love and the God of wrath (see the day of the Lord in Noah’s time, in Pharaoh’s time in Egypt, in Sodom’s time, when Jesus comes again.? Just like the brothers of Jesus believed in him after his death. There will be some Jesus’ brothers (Jews) who will believe after the church is taken away. They will believe after the tribulation has started and will start preaching, and a multitude will be saved.

Objectives

By the end of this session, the learner will have:

  • Understood that when people reject God’s word, God always allows the consequences of disobedience and sins
  • Understood that preaching, believing, and worship shall continue after the tribulation has started by comparing the verses given about the tribes of Israel, both in the OT and NT.
  • Appreciated the appropriate and inappropriate responses after tribulation has started by comparing the people in Rev 6: 15-17 and Rev 7: 9-10.
  • Appreciated the angelic ministries to the people of God by comparing their activities before, during, and after the tribulation has started.

The 144, 000 saved and sealed during tribulation time

Revelation 7: 1-8

Revelation 7:1-8

  • Context:
    • John’s vision in Revelation 7:1-8 occurs between the sixth and seventh seals, post-rapture, during the tribulation, a period of God’s wrath against sin and a Christ-rejecting world.
    • The church is raptured, spared from tribulation, as God prepares to seal and use 144,000 Jewish evangelists for His purposes.
  • Sealing of the 144,000 (Revelation 7:1-8):
    • Four angels hold back the winds of judgment at the earth’s corners, preventing harm to land, sea, or trees until God’s servants are sealed (v. 1-3).
    • An angel from the east, bearing the seal of the living God, commands the sealing of 144,000 from the twelve tribes of Israel, 12,000 from each tribe, as evangelists to preach during the tribulation (v. 3-8).
    • Mercy is shown as God protects these servants, fulfilling His promise to save all Israel (Romans 11), ensuring their role in spreading the gospel.
  • Application:
    • Trust in God’s sovereign plan to redeem Israel and use His sealed servants to evangelize; hold fast to Jesus now, embracing His seal of ownership, to avoid the tribulation and participate in His grace before the judgments unfold.
