Winning the unbelieving seekers through teaching

John 7: 14-29

Introduction

In this session John 7: 14-29, we focus on how Jesus the master teacher sought to win the souls of many seekers who were afraid of the Jewish teachers. Jesus used three main methods of winning the souls : Healing, preaching and teaching.

Objectives

By the end of this session, the learner will have:

  • Understood Jesus principles of soul winning namely, healing, preaching and teaching
  • Appreciated that bad teaching holds seeking learners under fear and guessing. John 7:12-13

Connecting

  • Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
  • Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
  • Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
  • Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.

Comprehending

  • Read John 7: 12-13. What were the two limiting views crowds had about Jesus. Why (crowds) did they not speak out publicly? Discuss.
  • What is teaching? How did Jesus use teaching to win souls? What is the difference between teaching and preaching?
  • Read John 7: 14-19. What is revealed about the teaching as a tool to win souls.
  • Read John 7: 20-29. What do you notice about people’s right and wrong judgment, or decision or discernment? What was the root cause of people’s bad judgment? How did Jesus correct it through teaching?

Committing

  • Engage with the Bible—read, study, memorize, meditate, pray, listen, and live it out.
  • List three lessons you have learnt as an agent of change that you would like to put into practice and teach others about.
  • Take time and worship Jesus with the attributes revealed about Christ.

    • Prayer to make
    • Example to copy

Communicating

  • Identify one person you can connect with and share the valuable insights and lessons you gained from this session.
  • Reach out to a new believer—either in person or by phone—and pray with them to support them through their challenges, including any concerns about attending church.
  • Create a new group and guide others through this study to help them grow in their understanding.
