The Teachings of the King: Connecting to the Kingdom of God (Part 1)
Matthew 5:1-24
- Session: 5
- Week: 1
- Day: 5
Introduction
The introduction of Matthew chapters 5-7 explains how a person can inherit the Kingdom of God through a change of mind (repentance). For repentance to occur, Jesus must educate the minds of His disciples in knowing God so that they can serve and worship God without fear. Jesus is the King of kings, educating His kings for service.
Objectives
By the end of this session, you will have:
- Understood the preaching of the King about reconnecting to the Kingdom of God by listing the Beatitudes, educating the mind about the purpose of being in the Kingdom, and re-educating the disciples about the spirit of the law of God.
- Understood the truth about repentance (a change of mind).
Outline
Jesus was the Expected Messiah as expressed through:

Comprehending
What do the verses mean? (In small groups, attempt the following questions):
- Read Matthew 3:2; Matthew 3:8; Matthew 4:17. What is repentance? Why should we repent? What did Jesus reveal about repentance? (Note: One can only inherit the Kingdom of God through repentance. Repentance is only possible through educating the mind. Discuss.)
- Read Matthew 5:1-2. What is revealed about Jesus educating the mind to repent so they could inherit the Kingdom of God?
- Read Matthew 5:2-12. List the 7 stages of connecting to, entering, inheriting, and progressing into the Kingdom of God. What are the benefits of reconnecting with the Kingdom of Heaven? What is the purpose of the Beatitudes?
- Read Matthew 5:13-16. What is the purpose of inheriting the Kingdom of God (being an agent of change on earth)?
- Read Matthew 5:17-20. What did Jesus reveal (educate) about the law of Moses versus the Kingdom of Life?
- What is the difference between the spirit of the law and the letter of the law?
- What do you understand about Sharia law? What did Jesus teach concerning Sharia law?
