Winning the Souls of the Critics: Apologetics
John 10: 22-30
- Session: 36
- Week: 6
- Day: 3
Introduction
In this session, John 10: 22-30, we focus on three claims of Jesus to the Jews who claimed to be in suspense: Jesus is the Messiah, Jesus is the Son of God and the exact nature of God. The Jews, who were wavering between two opinions about Jesus being God, refused to believe in Jesus because they were not his sheep. Understanding this session will help us to win the souls of our critics by providing enough proof of Jesus’s claims of being God
Objectives
By the end of this session, the learner will have:
- Understood Jesus’s claim as being God by looking at his answers to his critics
- Reflected Jesus’s identity as being 100 percent man and 100 percent God while he was on earth
- Known how to win the souls of your critics by giving reason for your faith.
Outline
- Jesus claims to be God, Messiah
- Jesus’ works show he is God
- Jesus’ exact nature with God
- Jesus gives eternal life
Group Study Time
John 10: 22-30
Connecting
- Gather with two or more people for a community discovery bible study session.
- Start with a heartfelt prayer, inviting God to guide and bless your understanding.
- Explore the passage by reading it at least twice, using different Bible versions if available, then retell the story together as a group.
- Reflect and share the challenges and blessings you experienced from the previous study.
Comprehending
- Did Jesus ever claim to be God? How would you answer critics who say Jesus never claims to be God? John 10:30. Jesus said he and God the Father have the exact same nature. Omnipotent, (all powerful) omniscient, (all-knowing) omnipresent (ever-present). Discuss these three.
- Read John 10: 22-24. What question do critics always ask themselves about Jesus? Why did people feel in suspense about Jesus being the Messiah? What is the meaning of Messiah?
- Read John 10: 25-30. List at least three things Jesus said about himself as equal to God when answering critics’ questions. These three statements can only be said by God only
